Summary: Heavy text corruption in virtual consoles using DRI
Product: DRI
Version: unspecified
Platform: x86 (IA32)
OS/Version: Linux (All)
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: General
AssignedTo: dri-devel(a)lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: eblanca76(a)users.sourceforge.net
I have a clean install of latest ubuntu lucid lynx, I added framebuffer support
for g550 (matroxfb) and text in virtual consoles appears corrupted, it is made
of random pixels appearing far away from the expected prompt. I can get back to
clean text if I switch to xorg (ctrl+f7) then back to the virtual console, but
if I type in new text, it appears ugly as usual.
The only workaround for this is to disable DRI, then the text appears perfect
and no switch is needed. Of course, this way the system cannot support any
game.
I attach my actual xorg.conf.
My config: ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) 2.6.32-22-generic i686 GNU/Linux with
gnome 2.30.2 and xorg X server 1.7.6.

Patch to fix udev tests on Intel (when there is actually no Intel drm)

(gdb) print parent
$1 = (struct udev_device *) 0x0
Something should be done to skip certain udev function calls when parent is
NULL.
See attached patch (which works for both 2.4.26 and git). It avoids the
segmentation fault but perhaps, it produces a false positive, I am not sure:
PASS: gem_basic
failed to open intel drm device, skipping
PASS: gem_flink
failed to open intel drm device, skipping
PASS: gem_readwrite
failed to open intel drm device, skipping
PASS: gem_mmap
I have no Intel drm device. I have a Nouveau device. If I disable Intel drm
from build by proper configure options, such tests are automatically skipped
(but Intel is built by default and it's not easy to figure out what's going in
the current situation).
You can always modify the patch to behave slightly different if such tests
should fail.

When we enable the clipping border (Alt+B) in Blender and enter edit mode, the
vertex handles (small quads) are misplaced and huge. This is better seen after
rotating the camera.
LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 works fine.

ARGB window without alpha channel
After updating mesa on Debian Testing to package version 7.10.2-2 everything
mapped from a XPixmap lost the Alpha Channel. ARGB windows are no longer
translucent (screenshot attached) as well everything else mapped from an
XPixmap. This only affects OpenGL ES/EGL build of KWin, building against
desktop GL/GLX does not show the symptoms.
Debug output of KWin with GLES:

OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on AMD RV710
OpenGL version string: OpenGL ES 2.0 Mesa 7.10.2

Debug output of KWin with GLX:

This worked fine until update of the package. KWin has not changed (recent
master, build from today).
If you need any help to investigate, please ask. We want to push the GLES build
of KWin with our upcoming release (beta 1 next week).
