What version of the 3D driver is he using?
How could we check this?
You might try a newer 3D driver package. Make sure he is using the r300 gallium driver (r300g).
As he's on Debian Wheezy he has installed "libgl1-mesa-dri (7.11.1-1)" but not sure if this tells you something.
