Not necessarily during the game, often shortly after closing it. If I don't run any of them, 2.6.35-rc6 works fine, thus I suspect there is a correlation. I might be wrong, though...
About other running 3d applications: I use compiz with mesa 7.8.2 installed. Should I try with a non-compositing wm?
