mesa-9.2.5 (kernel-3.13-rc7) seems to work (at least with mpv), so it looks like regression in mesa.
"looping" and corruptions exist and with mesa-9.2.5, but seems that finely found trick: sleep 1; xset dpms force off before first use vdpay allow eliminate this.
