I am fine with your proposal to remove DRM_STI_FBDEV but I would like to be able to enable it by a module parameter. This is what I propose in "[PATCH 1/1] drm/sti: enable fbdev compatibility through module param"

We replace the #ifdef in sti_drm_load with CONFIG_DRM_FBDEV_EMULATION. It's probably okay to get remove the #ifdef itself, but just left it here for now to be safe. It can be removed after some testing.
