I'd request that fbtft please be kept in staging until a successor is ready, such as Noralf's tinydrm.
fbtft is a popular way to connect small TFT LCDs over SPI to single board computers like BeagleBone and Raspberry Pi. It became simpler for users to get fbtft drivers working once Thomas Petazzoni added it to staging at the end of 2014. I would like to avoid going back to the scenario where the fbtft drivers have to be added as a patch before compiling the kernel.
