I actually stumbled across the commit 2744f4e762141d0b1233f962ebe706d60cd460d2 by Alex in http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.0/ChangeLog-3.2.29 and sent him a PM to which he was kind enough to reply: 'As Michel noted on the bug, it appears to be a different issue in your case. An alternate workaround would be to use shadowfb. Add: Option "NoAccel" "True" To the device section of your xorg.conf'
From your reply, I gather you think that Alex's commit actually does fix the
issue. Only one way to find out ... I will report back once I have tried 3.2.29 in place of my stock XUbuntu 3.2.0 kernel. Perhaps the other issue will go away as well.
