This patch reflects several comments posted to the list after the original patch had been submitted. It *supersedes* the previous patch (i.e. apply it to the master branch as it exists at the time of this writing, not as an incremental patch to the one sent previously).

No new functionality has been introduced.

Apart from the sticking point about what to do when the ioctl doesn't work for the given CRTC, this looks good.
