On my RV635 things are really great, still not a single crash, DPM working without any issues. Running 24/7 for weeks.
Try mesa 10.1 or 10.2 I thought that is the whole point of using open drivers on Radeon - to use the superior 10.1+ drivers over Catalyst and feature-, performance, and powersaving- gutted Mesa 9.2
