But that's still using the radeon driver, right? If so, it's possible to narrow down the exact kernel version where the problem was introduced, or even the exact Git commit using git bisect.

Furthermore the amd beta driver amdgpu-pro gives in every kernel I tried (4.4 and 4.8) flickering problems with refreshrates above 60hz.

This report is about the radeon driver, let's not confuse things here by mixing in amdgpu-pro issues.
