Bug ID: 95058 Summary: When monitors sleep, backlights stay on, screen is black, and can't be woke up Product: DRI Version: XOrg git Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64) OS: Linux (All) Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: DRM/AMDgpu Assignee: dri-devel@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: Espionage724@gmail.com
I use 3 monitors. I leave, come back, and my monitors are on, but all of them show a black background. Mouse cursor doesn't show, and trying to switch to TTY doesn't work. Keyboard caps lock light doesn't toggle. REISUB magic keys work to reboot the system.
I'm using a R9 380 (MSI GAMING 4G) with AMDGPU, a GIGABYTE GA-990FX-Gaming motherboard, FX-8350, and a 750W Corsair PSU. I'm using Xubuntu 16.04 (4.4.0-21-generic; default kernel) and use padoka-PPA (DRI3, TearFree, sisched, forcedma).
This has happened only after I got the R9 380 about a week or so ago. I've ran a Radeon HD 7850 prior to that on the same set-up (only with radeon instead of amdgpu) and haven't had this happen.

(DRI3, TearFree, sisched, forcedma).
Does it also happen without all of those enabled? If yes, please attach the Xorg log file and the output of dmesg and glxinfo.

--- Comment #2 from coolo1mc@gmail.com --- I believe I am getting the same issue on my MSI Vega 56 while running linux-amd-drm-next kernel one archlinux. Works fine until screen sleeps, after screen sleeps it will not wake up again. System is still alive as I can say in, but I cannot switch VT, and keyboard input seems to cause the GPU fan to spin faster.

--- Comment #3 from Mez mezcalbert@hotmail.com --- Same sort of thing happens to me whatever evolution of amdgpu in various kernels I've been using in the last year or so.
The outcome is very random, either crashes my system or logs me out of Gnome.
It happens if the screen goes blank or even worse, when I deactivate all lock screens or screensavers, if I just turn the TV off, have a nap and back on, Gnome will be at log in screen, with previous session terminated.
