On the thinkwiki mailing list, there are a few more users reporting this, including me.

Running Debian/testing & unstable (I guess that says enough) on a Thinkpad Z61m. which has a VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility X1400. KMS is enabled by default on Linux kernel 2.6.32-5-68, and on Testing/Unstable X (X.Org X Server 1.9.4) won't work if you disable it..

Your cards are not AGP and the symptoms are not related to this bug at all. Please file a new bug and include your xorg log and dmesg output.
