Bug ID: 108329 Summary: [Polaris] amd-staging-drm-next has high pitch audio on 4k60hz HDMI output Product: DRI Version: DRI git Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64) OS: Linux (All) Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: DRM/AMDgpu Assignee: dri-devel@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: johngaltfirstrun@gmail.com
Created attachment 141995 --> https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=141995&action=edit xrandr output showing the 60hz support
After 4.18 didn't have support for 4k@60hz over HDMI, it was refreshing to see it supported in amd-staging-drm-next. Unfortunately, there is currently high pitch audio when using 4k@60 output. Using xrandr to change to any other resolution or refresh rate has fully working audio.
I understand Polaris is still very WIP hardware, but I'm willing to test patches or get additional logging to help with this bug.

--- Comment #4 from Nicholas Kazlauskas nicholas.kazlauskas@amd.com --- 1. Is the high pitch audio loud relative to the rest of the output? 2. If you're using speakers, are they internal to the TV/monitor? 3. Does the high pitch audio also occur during desktop idle?

--- Comment #5 from John Galt johngaltfirstrun@gmail.com --- (In reply to Nicholas Kazlauskas from comment #4)
- Is the high pitch audio loud relative to the rest of the output?
- If you're using speakers, are they internal to the TV/monitor?
- Does the high pitch audio also occur during desktop idle?
1) it's all audio, and is sped up and choppy. It's not just the pitch (took me a bit to realize).
2) Yes.
3) any audio is sped up, no additional sounds.
I've found that manually setting with cvt and xrandr modeline doesn't have the issue, but the refresh rate is also 59.976, not 60.0.
