Bug ID: 100591 Summary: [AMD APU A9-9410] Kernel hang when using graphics acceleration Product: DRI Version: XOrg git Hardware: x86-64 (AMD64) OS: Linux (All) Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: medium Component: DRM/AMDgpu Assignee: dri-devel@lists.freedesktop.org Reporter: ben.davenportray@gmail.com
Kernel hangs hard whenever it has to do anything graphics accelerated or too cpu intensive (two laravel web server instances / opening chromium / opening YouTube on Firefox / I look at it too hard). It won't even let me switch to another console, forcing me to hard reboot.
I am unable to see anything using `journalctl -xe` when my system goes down; either the log just stops or the file is corrupted, though I also don't know what I am looking for.
I was able to confirm that it wasn't thermal overheating, and chip diagnostics say that it is okay.
Linux 4.9.20 xorg-xserver 1.19.2

--- Comment #5 from Michel Dänzer michel@daenzer.net --- Did this not happen with an older version of the kernel or other software components?

--- Comment #6 from splitt splitt@yopmail.fr --- Same hang here, same CPU : booting with kernel parameter amd_iommu=off solved the problem. For more details, please search for stoney patch disable ATS.
