From what I've been told, you need to boot using the EFI stub method and not a boot-loader. Also, you may need to pass some kernel options (eg initrd) so the easiest way to do this is from within an EFI shell.
Do you have any more details on that? I'd like to try it!
How are you booting the kernel?
linux /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda3 I have never needed an initrd, all required modules are built in...
