However when i am looking at my device on the hummingboard it appears to support only GLES2...

Am I doing something wrong or Is this a etnaviv restriction? If so is there anything that we can help to support it?

The gallium driver needs some love. Patches are always welcome so feel free to start hacking ;) If you need some starting points for RE work etc join #etnaviv on freenode.

BTW: does anybody know if etnaviv is / will support the GC7000 already?

It should/will support it (with some work). As far as I know boards with an imx8 are not publicly available and none of the developers have access to such hw.
