Bug ID: 194649 Summary: Graphical garbage r9 380 Product: Drivers Version: 2.5 Kernel Version: 4.9 Hardware: All OS: Linux Tree: Mainline Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P1 Component: Video(DRI - non Intel) Assignee: drivers_video-dri@kernel-bugs.osdl.org Reporter: roberth.sjonoy@gmail.com Regression: No
Created attachment 254857 --> https://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=254857&action=edit Picture of the corruption when rightclicking in websites in chromium
There is a graphical garbage in the dropdown menu when right clicking any plasma application, tooltips in any plasma application, it flashes very briefly and is very partial regardless if I move the mouse cursor.
Same with chromium, but it happens more often and is more severe when rightclicking inside a website. It doesn't disappear in this case until you move the mouse cursor anywhere over the dropdown menu, if I right click the ui itself in chromium(bookmarks bar) it flashes very briefly and is very partial regardless if I move the mouse cursor over the dropdown menu.
It sometimes happen very briefly across the whole window when opening a new window for Gwenview.
This started to happen after upgrading from kernel 4.8.13 to 4.9.6, it still happens in 4.10.0. Different mesa version makes no difference.

--- Comment #3 from Roberth Sjonøy (roberth.sjonoy@gmail.com) --- The example shown in the image is easily reproducible for me by just right clicking over and over and it will appear.

--- Comment #4 from Michel Dänzer (michel@daenzer.net) --- I can't seem to reproduce this on my Tonga.
Was it really only the kernel that made the difference? No updates for kwin / Mesa / xf86-video-amdgpu / xserver / Mesa / ... in the meantime? What kwin compositor settings are you using?
If it's really only the kernel, can you bisect between 4.8.13 and 4.9.6?

--- Comment #5 from Roberth Sjonøy (roberth.sjonoy@gmail.com) --- I tested all the way to back to kwin 5.7.5, issue still appears, tested mesa from git, 13.0, 17.0 issue still persist. Xserver 1.19 and the latest xf86-video-amdgpu has been used long before this issue appeared. Tried different kwin compositor settings, no change either. The only thing that helps is to downgrade to kernel 4.8.13.
I don't know how to bisect to be honest.
