Bug ID: 68151 Summary: Backlight brightness change causes freeze (radeon with KMS) Product: Drivers Version: 2.5 Kernel Version: 3.13-rc6 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Tree: Mainline Status: NEW Severity: high Priority: P1 Component: Video(DRI - non Intel) Assignee: drivers_video-dri@kernel-bugs.osdl.org Reporter: fabian@ritter-vogt.de Regression: No
Created attachment 120871 --> https://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=120871&action=edit Output of hwinfo
If I change the backlight brightness using the brightness keys on my keyboard, sometimes the system freezes. SysRq doesn't work. Mobility radeon 5470 with KMS enabled. I first noticed this when upgrading openSUSE from 12.3 (3.7.10) to 13.1 (3.11.6). I have to use "acpi_backlight=vendor" to disable acpi_video0, which isn't working and has a higher priority than radeon_bl0.
Reproducible: Always
The hwinfo was created with the older, working kernel running.

--- Comment #1 from Michel Dänzer michel@daenzer.net --- Can you bisect?

--- Comment #3 from Fabian fabian@ritter-vogt.de --- I tried to bisect it but somehow it got very hard to reproduce at some point. I had to change the backlight for almost a minute before it freezes and with the new 3.15.0-rc4 I'm running on I can't reproduce it with normal usage. I can't tell for sure whether it's fixed, but it works definitely reliable enough for me, so closing as "unreproducible" for now.
