Summary: No HDMI PCM mutichannel audio
Product: DRI
Version: XOrg CVS
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux (All)
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: DRM/Radeon
AssignedTo: dri-devel(a)lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: xavier.bestel(a)free.fr
Hi,
using a HD 2600, audio over HDMI is stereo-only. The only mean to have
multichannel (e.g. 5.1) is to use passthrough, but true multichannel (e.g. 8
channels PCM) isn't supported by the driver, although it should be supported by
the HDMI standard.
Here's the excerpt from alsa-info.sh concerning the card:

A couple of immediately apparent issues:
1. The top-panel bar is absent.
2. Window shadows are white rather than black (or at least I presume they're
meant to be shadows and not a glow!)

I have an ASUS K53TA laptop.
Relevant specs: AMD A6-3400M APU with integrated Radeon HD6520G and a discrete
Radeon HD6650M. Both are connected through Crossfire (I think). Laptop display
is though the integrated card.
Software info:
Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit using Linux 3.2-rc1 kernel from kernel.org and xorg-edgers
PPA
After resuming from suspend, display does not work.

kernel's warning
It seems that hdmi audio is working now for radeon 69xx series. Thanks for
that!
It did not on rc3. But there is also a new warning loading the driver that may
be interesting. Nevertheless system seems to run good (and with audio!)
